Museo was born from a simple question: “Where can I see my favorite artist’s work in real life?”

The idea struck when Museo’s creator, Emily, took a trip to San Francisco hoping to find paintings by Wayne Thiebaud — the famous artist known for painting colorful cakes and Bay Area cityscapes. But after taking to Google to do some searching, she realized there was no easy way to discover exactly where his works were on display.

There has to be an app for this, she thought — a tool to connect art lovers with the art and artists they love, wherever they are in the world. But there wasn’t. So, she decided to build it. And so, Museo: The Art Tourism App came to life — making the art world easier to find, explore, and share for everyone. 

Museo is the app made for art — and was created by artists. Designed as a universal tool for discovering art of every kind, Museo makes it effortless to find what inspires you most. Explore the world through the map, search by specific criteria, or filter by favorites with just a tap of the heart button. Following an artist means you’ll always know where to find their work — whether it’s nearby or part of your next adventure. You can even follow museums and galleries to stay in the loop on special exhibitions, so you never miss what’s next.

Museo has a user-driven catalog, and new art gets added every day by people like you. When you discover an artwork that hasn’t been mapped yet, you can be the first to add it using our simple cataloging form. Share your find anonymously or get credit by displaying your public handle — it’s up to you!

Museums and institutes can take it even further by becoming Museo Curators. As a Curator, you can moderate the artworks tagged at your location, upload images to attract new visitors, add events to the Museo Events Calendar, and even send push notifications to spread the word about special exhibitions.

We respect artists’ rights and preferences, and make it simple for any artist to opt out if they choose not to be part of the Museo movement.
